“The Vestimentary Ego: Why Do We Dress?” is the outcome of five years of doctoral research that the author conducted at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, complemented by more than twenty years of professional experience in fashion and visual studies. Their theory of the “Vestimentary Ego” begins with a reconsideration of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud’s theories and develops through Didier Anzieu’s concept of the Skin-Ego. In this volume, the “Vestimentary Ego” is introduced as a symbolic extension of identity, analysing human clothing as the first visual language through which we communicate and express ourselves.
